Course Overview
The Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Plumbing is designed for learners who have already achieved a Level 2 plumbing qualification (such as City & Guilds 6035-02) and who want to deepen their technical understanding of plumbing systems and design. It develops theoretical knowledge, system planning skills and technical understanding relevant to modern plumbing and building services engineering. These skills support progression toward further industry qualifications, apprenticeships or technical roles in plumbing and heating.
For this course you will need steel toe-capped safety footwear – required for workshop sessions, protective workwear such as overalls or durable work trousers, safety glasses and gloves (as specified by the training centre), tools & stationery, tape measure (e.g., 5 m builder’s tape), notebook or notepad for lectures and portfolio planning, pens, pencils, and scale ruler, folder or ring binder to organise coursework, assignment work and notes.

GCSE Grade 4 (or equivalent) in English Language (minimum).

External Theory Exam
A formal externally set theory assessment covering technical knowledge from the core units.
Practical Synoptic Assessment
A practical assessment where learners apply their technical understanding to plumbing tasks or scenarios under observation; this helps demonstrate integrated skills across systems.
Ongoing Assignments and Portfolio
Coursework or assignments completed during the course as evidence of learning and understanding.

Apprenticeships
Progression into a Level 3 Plumbing and Domestic Heating Apprenticeship (e.g., 9189) — combining on-the-job training with further qualification.
Further Technical Study
Progression toward more specialised or advanced plumbing qualifications, technical certificates, or supervisory qualifications.
